Happy birthday Mr. Kum Eric Tso

COLLEGE DU SOLEIL: Happy birthday Mr. Kum Eric Tso

Beautiful Surprises…

The glorious birthday surprises kicked off yesterday when I got into Form 2 in College du Soleil for a Computer Science class that turned into a birthday party (I teach English Language and Computer Science). The children decided to do it in advance (on Friday 16 December) since we could not meet on Saturday. As I stepped on the door, baloons started popping, others were singing, some screaming with excitement, the whole school seemed to shake as other classes were affected by the loud joyous noise. The table was dressed with cake, drinks, flower, etc bought with money contributed by about 70% of the class (50 to 100 francs CFA per student as I later learnt). After listening to the poems presented and reading of birthday messages on the world, I thanked the children for the love and prayed for them. I was so full of emotions that I didn’t know what to say. I proceeded in sharing the food stuff with the organizers to the children and shared with them what I had also brought. The dean and some of my colleagues were amazed. They said this has never happened in the history of the school, not even for the proprietor. Some parents also sent gifts through their children. This was not the end. Form 3 had prepared even a bigger party for the first break and form 1 and 4 followed suit. Not forgetting the presentation of personal gifts which came with unique messages yet one common message: my (our) father, my (our) best teacher. I almost got into trouble when the form 3s who know that their class is my favourite heard me telling the form 1s that I’m their father and that they are so precious to me. Institut Jean Paul II also had their little feast. My local assembly will go wild tomorrow and the evening school is preparing the party after the party on Monday 19th. I feel fulfilled as an educator, a moral agent, a friend and a father to many. It’s amazing how many lives I touch and transform everyday almost unconsciously. Thank you to all my children in all the institutions that I have taught. I love you all.
